Since February 2026, kitchen cabinets sold in India, imported ones included, must carry the BIS Standard Mark under the Furniture Quality Control Order. Häcker is one of the few imported kitchen brands that holds the licence: the German factory was inspected, the units were tested to the Indian standard, and the licence is public.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is India’s national standards body. Its certification marks tell a buyer that a product has been tested against the relevant Indian Standard and that the factory making it has been inspected and is audited. For a manufacturer outside India, BIS grants the licence under its scheme for foreign manufacturers after a factory visit and testing of samples.
IS 17634:2022 is the Indian Standard for storage units: the cabinets, drawers and tall units that make up a modular kitchen. It sets requirements for strength, stability, the durability of hinges, runners and shelves, and the finish, with test methods for each.
Since February 2026 the Furniture (Quality Control) Order makes this certification mandatory for storage units sold in India, whether made here or imported. For an imported kitchen that means the foreign factory itself must hold a BIS licence; few do.
Häcker’s licence covers the storage units made in Rödinghausen, the same cabinets that arrive in India as finished units and are installed by the thirteen studios. It sits alongside the marks Häcker already holds in Germany: RAL “Made in Germany”, the Golden M of the German furniture quality association, the GS mark and ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 50001.

Because the kitchen is sold and installed in India. The Bureau of Indian Standards certifies products made abroad under its scheme for foreign manufacturers, after testing samples and inspecting the factory. The mark tells an Indian buyer that the product meets the Indian standard, not only a European one.
Yes. The Furniture (Quality Control) Order brings storage units under IS 17634:2022 into mandatory BIS certification from February 2026, for products made in India and for imports alike. A kitchen cabinet sold in India after that date must carry the BIS Standard Mark under a valid licence.
