Mexican Bhel and Guava Buttermilk @ Haecker modular kitchen in Delhi:
Chef Prateek Agarwal starts the cooking session in the modular kitchen with the chaat recipe and quips that the capital is famous for its chaat. He is using Bosch Appliances, one of the premium appliance brands that we collaborate with. Bosch appliances are known for their innovative technology, functionality, and state-of-the-art design. The chef demonstrates how simple it is to utilize these appliances throughout the cooking session.
For this cooking session, he has decided to prepare bhel, one of the most popular Indian snacks to savor at any time of the year. It is simple and quick to assemble if all the ingredients are readily available.
Traditionally, Bhel is prepared with puffed rice, sev, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, peanuts, tamarind sauce, and chilies.
But Chef Prateek Agarwal decided to give it a healthy twist and concocted a fusion version of the bhel. Here’s a Mexican Bhel recipe that is loaded with healthy ingredients and brimming with nutrients.
Mexican Bhel: The Ingredients
To prepare Mexican Bhel you will require the following ingredients.
50 gms Corn
50 gms Diced Tomatoes
150 gms Boiled Kidney Beans
50 gms Chopped Onions
20 gms Black Olives
20 gms Green Olives
20 gms Jalapenos
10 gms Fresh Coriander
50 gms Sev
10 ml Tabasco
10 gm White Pepper Powder
Salt to taste
10 ml Lemon Juice
10 gm Paprika Powder
10 gm Chopped Green Chillies
30 gms Tomato Ketchup
All of these ingredients are easily available. A couple of the ingredients need to be prepped before you assemble them.
The method:
Step: 1 Prepare the Red Kidney Beans
The chef had soaked the red Kidney Beans overnight which he steamed in the Bosch’s built-in combination steam oven for 30 minutes. The steam function makes it an ideal choice for kitchens.
Step 2: Prepare the Corn
The next step is to prepare the corn for the chaat. The chef sprinkles the corn kernels on the tray, puts it in the Bosch oven, and sets the Hot Grill function. Leave the corn in for 20 minutes. Grilling gives the corn the right flavor and texture.
Step 3: Mix everything
Once the beans and corn are ready, take out a mixing bowl. First, put the boiled red Kidney Bean, and add sautéed corn, followed by the diced tomatoes, chopped onions, green, yellow, and red peppers, and Nylon Sev. Pour some ketchup to coat the chaat, and add black and green olives, Jalapenos, and fresh coriander. Sprinkle a little Paprika powder on top to add color to this concoction.
It is time to give this chaat its Indian flavor with a teaspoon of Chaat masala. Add chopped green
chilies as per your taste. A spoonful of lemon juice and two dashes of Tabasco sauce will add much-needed tangy and spicy flavors. Use wooden spoons to mix everything well.
Guava Buttermilk:
Do not serve this chaat without the yummy Guava Buttermilk the Chef prepared next. Let’s take a quick look at the ingredients and method.
